Success Stories Teachers are among some of the most ingenious people. Vernier appreciates all the support teachers give in using our products and experimenting new ways to make the classroom more dynamic. In recognition of all teachers for their dedication and perseverence, we highlight a teacher as a success story to inspire continued growth in education.
Binghamton, NY - There's something fishy in the state of New York. But in this case, it's all for the good. In bucolic Binghamton, trout steams abound. Their "residents" are accurate gauges of the local water quality and the health of the environment: trout cannot survive in water that is too warm, too polluted, or that contains high levels of certain dissolved solutes. Soon, supported by Vernier's LabPro water quality probes, students in eleven school districts will be studying the fish to learn important lessons about watersheds and the world's dwindling resources.
If Ed Wyrembeck's physics students were to engage in the thrillseeking venture of bridge swinging, they could do it without being concerned about the cable breaking. That's because of an experiment the Howards Grove High School physics and calculus instructor conducted with 14 of his students last year. They determined that in order for someone to swing back and forth on a cable suspended from a bridge, the tension on the cable must be at least three times the weight of the person or persons hanging from the end of it. |
