About Vernier Software & Technology

Company Background

When it comes to scientific data collection, Vernier Software & Technology provides the inspiration for students to measure, analyze and learn. Founded in 1981 by David Vernier, a high school physics teacher, Vernier has perfected the development and production of affordable, easy-to-use data-acquisition products (probeware) for science classrooms and labs around the world.

The company provides award-winning tools for math and science education and has made a successful business creating tools that help students grasp complex math and science concepts.

Our Products

Vernier products are divided into four general categories:

Laboratory Interfaces

Vernier has a next-generation interface, the Vernier LabQuest 2, a connected, high-resolution touchscreen interface for the classroom and the field. Its wireless connectivity encourages collaboration and personalized learning, making it the most powerful, connected, and versatile interface ever. LabQuest 2 can also be used as a computer interface with Logger Pro software for advanced analysis and video features.

LabQuest Mini brings the power of Vernier’s award-winning LabQuest technology to teachers who don’t need the versatility of a standalone device. Ideal for educators collecting data with a Windows® or Macintosh® computer, LabQuest Mini works with Logger Pro 3 or Logger Lite software for unparalleled power, analysis, and curricular support.

Vernier’s Go!Link and Go!Temp products, with related software and curriculum materials, provide laboratory interfaces for the younger student. These extremely affordable tools build excitement for computerized data collection and scientific exploration in elementary students.

Software

Vernier has developed several powerful tools for data collection and analysis:

For Macintosh and Windows computers:
  • Logger Pro: award-winning data-collection and analysis software with video analysis for use with any of the Vernier interfaces.
  • Logger Lite: easy-to-use, introductory data-collection and software for use with any of the Vernier interfaces.
  • LabQuest Viewer: software that allows you to view and control LabQuest 2 wirelessly from your computer.
For mobile devices:
  • Graphical Analysis for iPad®: iOS software that supports wireless, multi-touch data collection and analysis with iPad, LabQuest 2, and Vernier sensors.
  • Video Physics: the perfect tool for performing on-the-go analysis of interesting motions on iPad, iPhone®, and iPod® touch.
  • Data Share: broadcasts sensor data to one or more devices wirelessly from a LabQuest 2 interface. Using a compatible web browser, students can collaboratively collect experiment data and analyze an individual copy of the data on their device.

Vernier also supports STEM activities with LabVIEW® and LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT, as well as calculator-based data collection with DataQuest for TI-Nspire.

Sensors

Vernier’s sensors allow students to study motion, measure temperature, pH, pressure, heart rate, EKG, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, force, light level, magnetic field, acceleration, and more. In all, there are more than 70 sensors covering all areas of science.

Curriculum

Vernier lab books are at the heart of our probeware solution. With student instructions, essential teacher information, suggested answers, sample data and graphs, and more, the lab books help teachers get up and running quickly in the classroom. Many of Vernier’s lab books are correlated to state and national standards. Teachers are also welcome to customize the student instructions using the included CD of word-processing files to better fit their curriculum.

With over 25 books covering a range of topics and subject areas, Vernier’s technology can be tailored to fit each classroom’s needs:

  • Biology, physiology
  • Chemistry, organic chemistry
  • STEM, engineering, math
  • Environmental science, water quality, agricultural science, earth science
  • Middle school science, physical science
