I would like to try the beta software using the go!temp sensor, which is a USB device. The laptops available to me don't have a serial port. There is a printer port (parallel?), monitor, and USB.
I don't understand why the Linux software doesn't support usb devices. Could someone please explain this.
I have a nice computer with a nice usb socket, a nice sensor with a nice usb plug. Possibly because I don't know anything about software programming, I think it should be easy to get the sensor to work using usb.
Can someone please explain why this doesn't seem to be as I easy as I think it should be?
thanks, bullster

Hi, The software *should* support the Go!Temp on a USB port. Can you describe the problem you're having more fully? Do you see an LED on the Go!Temp change colors when you plug it in? When you launch LoggerPro? What disto of Linux are you using? Do other usb devices (mice, keyboards, etc.) work in that port?
Thanks,
Garth

I had been researching various forums which had suggested that USB wasn't supported, but i realize now that isn't correct. It took me a few hours to work out how to install the software, but only a few minutes once I had that worked out. The Go!temp sensor works wonderfully with LPL, using edubuntu 8.04.
thanks for the software! :)

Hi,
Well, I'm very glad you got it working!
I'm curious what other forums you'd looked at that suggested USB didn't work? I'd love to post some corrections -- help make sure other people don't draw the same conclusions.
Thanks, again, for using the software!
