I've been trying to set up a physics lab for my school with the LabPro Interface, Ubuntu and LPL. I was able to make it work on a computer, but none of my laptops will work. I am able to install Ubuntu and LPL, but LPL isn't recognizing the LabPro through the Serial or USB interfaces. They're just normal laptops, with pentium 4 mobile processors and 1 GB of RAM. Any ideas?

Maybe try to connect to a serial port, if your laptop has one, instead of the USB. I had to do this with some thin clients I was setting up as the USB ports were not being recognized.

Have you tried other devices on the USB port? Do you have any Go! devices to try? A LabQuest?
If you run LoggerPro from the command line (/usr/local/bin/loggerpro), it will log output to the terminal window. I'd be curious if you see anything that is a clue...
Thanks

Sorry it's been so long. Thanks to Garth, I managed to get it working. I had to upgrade to ubuntu 9.04, but i think something about the new kernel in 9.04 made it work. thanks for all your ideas.

I just installed Debian Linux 5.0.2 lenny (32 bit version) Kernel Linux 2.6.26-2-686 Gnome 2.22.3 on my Acer Aspire 4520 laptop (756 Mb mem, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor)
the message I am getting after following the 64bit instructions to install Logger Pro from another thread and then attempting to run Logger Pro is:
Your kernel (2.6.26-2-686) has been updated since this application installer package was created. LabPro and LabQuest cannot be used until you upgrade the driver. Would you like to search vernier.com for the appropriate driver and install it?
(You will be asked this every time you start until the driver is upgraded)
I have followed the instructions that are included with the update (Install_Notes.txt): 1) Open a terminal window 2) Make sure you have the linux headers package installed (you can try step 3 and only do this step if the make fails) 2.1) Type: uname -r 2.2) the response is your kernel version 2.3) System > Administration > Synaptic PackageManager 2.4) search for linux-headers-<your kernel version> (e.g. linux-headers-2.6.24-16-generic) 2.5) Right click and Mark for installation 2.6) Apply 3) Within the vstusb source directory (where this file is), Type: sudo make headers_install sudo make sudo make install 4) Plug in your LabPro, LabQuest, or Ocean Optics Spectrometer
and I still get the message. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Thanks for trying the beta. Sorry it's not quite working for you.
That error message means that it can't find the vstusb.ko kernel module needed to communicate with LabPro and LabQuest. The instructions you followed should have built and installed a new module, so perhaps there was an error during that process. Did you see any error messages while building?
