Problem with LabPro (under Fedora)
« on: June 23, 2009, 10:19:53 AM »

I am a Linux system administrator for the College of St. Benedict - St. John's University (www.csbsju.edu).  I deploy and manage our Linux lab.  I'm currently assisting one of our Computer Science research students with the LoggerPro beta.  We have the GUI application running just fine, and the kernel module loads, but we're getting an error when trying to use the LabPro sensor.  The student tells me that he can't get the sensor to connect to LoggerPro.

This is what is in dmesg:
usb 4-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
usb 4-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 4-2: New USB device found, idVendor=08f7, idProduct=0001

Garth,

Thanks for the help via e-mail.  It looks like our student research will just live with the inconvience of using Windows for now.

If you have contact with the developers (or you are one), you should suggest they target the LSB (Linux Standard Base) instead of Ubuntu.  I’m pretty sure that most heavily used distros are LSB compliant.  I can understand still providing .deb packages for Ubuntu users, but for the rest of us, a simple tar.gz with the necessary files for a LSB compliant distro would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Jason

Hey Jason,

I'm sorry it didn't work the way you wanted.  We'll take your suggestions under consideration.

Thanks for trying the beta.
