Science teacher Mark Shopland, Homer-Center High School, Homer City, PA, worked with two of his senior Integrated-Science students to investigate the pH variation in an oxidation-reduction reaction. The students used Thionin, an organic compound that exists in two forms with distinctly different colors. This was a great opportunity to integrate video along with sensor data collection.

As part of the recent Earth Day activities at Vernier, David Vernier and educational technology specialist Jim McBride checked on the trees we planted in the Beaverton Creek wetlands area near our office. The trees were planted in the fall of 2005 in conjunction with the organization Friends of Trees. While Dave and Jim are two of the best when it comes to data-collection technology, they didn't know their Ash from their Alders before collecting the data. Now they are experts.
