As 2006 comes to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on the past year while we prepare to celebrate the coming New Year. Here are a few articles that look back, as well as light your way to 2007. 1. Testing Holiday Lights 2. Vernier Products on TV 3. The Catalog is Coming 4. 2007 Workshops 1. Testing Holiday Lights Daylene Long, our head of marketing, recently went shopping for holiday lights and was surprised to find the newer LED versions costing substantially more than the "traditional" lights. She wanted to determine if the extra cost was warranted, so she asked Jack Randall to come up with some experiments to compare the lights. Jack came through with several experiments. He used a Surface Temperature Sensor, Light Sensor, and Vernier Spectrometer to compare heat generation, intensity, and emission spectra. To find out more, and to see Jack's data, visit http://www.vernier.com/e-news/2006-12-28/holiday-lights/ 2. Vernier Products on TV This past year, several Vernier products appeared in television programming presented by Discovery Communications, Inc. Our Go!Motion USB motion detector and Logger Lite software were featured on the show "Dream Science Classroom," which aired on the Science Channel. In this reality-based program, a teacher's science lab was remodeled and equipped with the latest technologies for teaching science. Vernier consultant David Carter was our TV star. The popular Discovery Channel series "MythBusters" produced a holiday show that featured our Force Plate and Logger Pro software in one of the segments. They were looking at the "myth" that dropping a frozen turkey could break your foot. I wouldn't try this one unless you are wearing steel-toed boots.
