The Foundation for Technology Education in cooperation with Pitsco/Hearlihy & Company proudly announces the $2,000 Pitsco/Hearlihy/FTE Grant in honor of Tom and Mary Hearlihy. The grant is for a technology teacher at any grade level (K-12). Its purpose is to recognize and encourage the integration of a quality technology education program within the school curriculum. Criteria include: (1) evidence of an effective quality technology education program, (2) documented success in the integration of technology education with other academic subjects, and (3) plans for professional development via the anticipated grant.

Developing Proposals
Proposals for mathematics and science education programs for girls and minority students should:

  • be designed for elementary or junior high school students or teachers and may operate in schools or in out-of-school settings;

  • reflect an understanding of national research on the causes of differential performance in mathematics and science of school-aged children;

  • be based on programs that have been successful elsewhere;

  • include a financial plan for continuation if the program is expected to continue beyond the end of the proposed grant; and

  • include a plan for evaluation of the program and its effect on participating girls and minority students.



AT&T Foundation Amount: Varies
AT&T Aspire is a $100 million initiative to address high school success and college and workforce readiness. This program is AT&T's most significant education initiative to date and one of the largest corporate commitments ever to address high school success and workforce readiness.

The $100 million AT&T Aspire program includes four key components:

* Grants to school districts, school district foundations and nonprofit organizations focused on high school retention and preparing students for college and/or the workforce. As part of this commitment, the AT&T Foundation launched a new grant program focused on high school success for at-risk students.
* Job shadowing for 100,000 students, in conjunction with JA Worldwide (Junior Achievement), giving students the chance to see firsthand the job skills they will need to be successful in the future. This is the largest corporate job-shadowing initiative Junior Achievement has ever undertaken.
* Commissioning the next chapter of major research on the high school dropout issue and solutions by directly engaging educational practitioners. Research is being conducted by John Bridgeland, author of the landmark report "The Silent Epidemic," for AT&T and America's Promise Alliance.
* Underwriting 100 community dropout-prevention summits, organized by America's Promise Alliance, to engage education experts and community leaders across all 50 states around the high school dropout crisis and ways to address it.

Beckman Coulter partners with local schools and businesses that are dedicated to enhancing classroom teaching of science math and technology through involvement in programs such as Project Tomorrow.


Best Buy Te@ch Grant Eligibility: K-12 school within a 25 mile rad

Best Buy and the Best Buy Children’s Foundation are proud to support schools using technology to make learning fun. The te@ch program will provide a $2,500 Best Buy Gift Card to schools in recognition of programs or projects that creatively integrate interactive technology into the curriculum. This year $3,000,000 will be awarded nationwide to 1,200 schools located within 25 miles of a Best Buy store.

The corporate foundation focuses on innovative programs in several locations that are equipping youth for the digital world. It awards grants through the equipping youth program to organizations addressing the health and human services, education and access needs of its communities.


Dollar General's Back-to-School Grants Amount: (7) $5000 grants
The Dollar General Back-to-School grant program will award (7) $5,000 grants to assist schools in meeting some of the financial challenges they face in implementing new programs or purchasing new equipment, materials or software for their school library or literacy program.

The DuPont Office of Education (OOE) works with educators, university faculty, the business community, and local DuPont sites to prepare today's children for tomorrow's world. DuPont supports programs and initiatives with the potential to demonstrate improved and sustainable outcomes, primarily in mathematics, science, and technology education.


Federated Department Stores, Inc. Amount: Varies
Earning for Learning (EFL), Macy's unique volunteer grants initiative, gives associates an opportunity to provide $250 grants to schools in which they give time for educational programs.


Hewlett Packard Company Amount: varies
The 2009 HP Innovations in Education grants for secondary school districts in the US fund school districts to launch innovative pilot initiatives that support the administrators and teachers responsible for student success in math and science in middle schools and/or high schools.

In the US, HP plans to award approximately 25 grants to public or qualified private school districts Each grant is valued at more than $270,000 in HP technology, cash, and professional development to support innovations in the following areas:

* Leadership Capacity – creating a network of school administrators and key teachers who implement innovative approaches to curriculum, instruction, and the use of technology to enhance math/science learning
* Digital Learning Environments – using technology to fundamentally redesign the learning experience in ways that lead to increased student engagement and academic success; can include innovations in online learning, virtual worlds, gaming for learning, and simulations
* The Secondary Student Design & Research Experience –making math and science real and relevant by involving secondary students in design and research challenges that address real needs in society; can include local and/or global service learning
* High-Tech Career Awareness – engaging administrators, teachers, and students in ways that increase awareness and interest in high-tech college degree programs and careers

Lexus Environmental Challenge Amount: up to 1 million dollars
The Lexus Environmental Challenge is a nationwide education program and contest about the environment that empowers teens to create a better world. Through this program, MIDDLE SCHOOL (Grades 6-8) and HIGH SCHOOL (Grades 9-12) students can participate in four initial environmental challenges about land, water, air, and climate.

Teams made up of 5 to 10 students and one teacher-advisor will define an issue, make a plan to address the issue, implement the plan, and report on the results within an online Action Plan. To accompany their efforts, teams will be encouraged to provide visual documentation in a variety of media including digital photos, digital videos, Web pages, and PowerPoint presentations.

Medical Technology is a company that supports students from elementary through post-secondary levels in their desires to dream, invent and shape the world in select locations in the US.
Their current goal is to prepare future generations of scientific innovators and health care professionals through:

  • Support of systemic efforts to increase Twin Cities K-12 student interest in and understanding of science through partnerships with schools, museums, and informal educational organizations.

  • Accelerating scientific innovation and application by developing and supporting post-secondary program.

Connected Learning Community (CLC) Grants are available and disibuted through Microsoft field offices located across the country, these grants of cash and software support initiatives that expand access to information technology to enhance learning and communication in disadvantaged communities.


NABT Ecology/Environmental Science Teaching Award Eligibility: secondary

Ecology/Environmental Science Teaching Award...
Sponsored by Vernier Software & Technology, the Ecology/Environmental Teaching Award will be given to a secondary school teacher who has successfully developed and demonstrated an innovative approach in the teaching of ecology/environmental science and has carried his/her commitment to the environment into the community. Vernier's sponsorship of this award includes $1000 toward travel to the national convention and $500 of Vernier equipment. The recipient also receives a plaque to be presented at the NABT National Convention, and a one-year complimentary NABT membership. The nomination deadline is March 15, 2007.

The National Geographic Society offers rural teachers $500 grants for programs and activities that educate students about cultural diversity and understanding. Specific areas of interest include classroom-focused, school-oriented, or districtwide efforts that support cultural education, hands-on and field experiences directly involving students and teachers learning about different cultures, projects encouraging community or cultural awareness and participation, and professional development for teachers in cultural geography.

NEA Foundation for the Improvement of Education Eligibility: K-12

The NEA Foundation supports a variety of efforts by teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff to improve student learning in the nation's public schools, colleges, and universities. Application deadlines vary.


NEC Foundation of America Amount: Varies
NEC Foundation of America makes cash grants to nonprofit organizations for programs with national reach and impact specifically in the arena of assistive technology for people with disabilities.


Outdoor Classroom Grant Program Eligibility: K-12 public schools
Amount: $2,000 - 20,000
The Outdoor Classroom Grant Program provides outdoor, hands-on science education to students in grades K-12 and assists schools in enhancing their core curriculum in all subjects.

This school year, the program will award grants up to $2,000 to at least 100 public schools. In some cases, grants for up to $20,000 may be awarded to schools or school districts with major outdoor classroom projects. The grants can be used to build a new outdoor classroom or to enhance a current outdoor classroom at the school. This program only considers outdoor classroom proposals.


Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge Eligibility: K-8

The Siemens Foundation, Discovery Education and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) announce the 2009 Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge is now accepting entries. The second year of this national sustainability challenge -- now expanded to include elementary school students -- encourages students in kindergarten through eighth grade to team up with their classmates to create replicable solutions to environmental issues in their classroom (grades K-2), school (grades 3-5), and community (grades 6-8).
Student and teacher/mentor prizes, which vary according to grade level, include savings bonds, school grants, exciting trips, TV appearances, and more. The deadline for elementary level entries is January 31, 2010 (finalists and winners announced in March 2010); and the deadline for middle school entries is March 15, 2010 (state winners announced in April 2010 and national winners announced in May 2010).

Toshiba America Foundation: Grades 7-12 grants Amount: Varies
Toshiba America Foundation contributes to the quality of science and mathematics education in U.S. communities by investing in projects designed by and with classroom teachers to improve science and science-related education for students in schools, grades 7 thru 12.

Grades 7-12 applications are accepted year round for grant requests under $5000 and are due February 1st and August 1st for grants over $5000.


Toshiba America Foundation: K-6 Science and Math Grant Program Eligibility: K-6
Amount: varies
Any K-6 teacher in a public or private (non-profit) school is eligible. Grants will be awarded to the teacher's school and will be restricted for use by the teacher in his/her classroom.



Toyota TAPESTRY grant program Eligibility: K-12 science teachers
Amount: up to $10,000
Toyota TAPESTRY recognizes outstanding educators who are making a difference by demonstrating excellence and creativity in science teaching. Since 1991 the program has awarded more than $7 million to 826 teams of teachers for innovative science classroom projects. Thanks to these teachers’ tireless efforts to improve their skills and increase their effectiveness, students nationwide are gaining a better understanding of science principles and methodologies. Toyota and NSTA sincerely hope these grants continue to inspire teachers and serve as a catalyst for lifetime science learning.

A partnership between Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. , Inc. and the National Science Teachers Association, the Toyota TAPESTRY Grants for Science Teachers program offers grants to K–12 science teachers for innovative projects that enhance science education in the school and/or school district. 50 large grants and a minimum of 20 mini-grants, totaling $550,000 in all, will be awarded this year. To apply for funding, qualified teachers must write a Toyota TAPESTRY proposal according to the proposal requirements.


Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year Program Eligibility: Any K - 12 teacher nominated by
Amount: $1,000 - $25,000
Winning teachers will receive $1,000 educational grants from the Wal-Mart/SAM'S CLUB Foundation to benefit their local school and an honorary Wal-Mart greeter's vest. Winning teachers also have the opportunity to apply for state and national Teacher of the Year honors. Increased this year, state winners will receive an additional $10,000 educational grant. The state winners will automatically be entered in the national competition. The national winner will receive an additional $25,000 educational grant for a total of $36,000 to his or her school.
