NI ELVIS

The NI Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite (NI ELVIS) is a device available through National Instruments. It is a LabVIEW-based design and prototype environment for university science and engineering laboratories. NI ELVIS consists of LabVIEW-based virtual instruments, a multifunction data acquisition (DAQ) device, and a custom-designed, bench-top workstation and prototype board.

Vernier sensors are a great add-on feature with NI ELVIS. Combining Vernier sensors with NI ELVIS for data collection and control experiments is easy with the use of Vernier Proto Board Connectors. By simply inserting a connector into the ELVIS prototyping board, you are provided access to the six pins of our analog and digital sensors. Make the proper connections on your prototyping board, plug in your Vernier sensor, and start collecting data.

LabVIEW VI Downloads
Use our LabVIEW example VIs to quickly get started collecting data with Vernier sensors connected to the NI ELVIS. Use the VIs to run examples of working data acquisition programs, to get your hardware configured correctly, and as a starting point in creating your own custom data collection and control programs.

These example LabVIEW programs are available for LabVIEW 7.x.

Vernier Conversion Express VI

This Express VI is used to convert raw voltage into the sensor’s scaled units. It also provides sensor specific information, such as units, label, default sampling rates, default experiment length, and more. Easy access to this Express VI from the Express User Libraries palette (right click in the block diagram).

Install in the _express directory.

Vernier Analog Instrument

A more advanced example of collecting analog data, the Vernier Analog Instrument provides the following features:
  • Examination of each data point with a cursor
  • Constant live readout
  • Data displayed on digital indicator, chart and table
  • Ability to save the data to file
  • Visual comparison of multiple runs
  • Custom analysis of data

Vernier Analog Sensors with ELVIS

With this set of VIs, you will be able to collect calibrated data from Vernier sensors using NI-ELVIS or an NI-DAQmx system. Very simple, easy-to-follow examples, demonstrating acquisition methods for collecting analog data from Vernier sensors.

Vernier Photogate with NI ELVIS

Use these example VIs to run the Vernier Drop Counter with NI ELVIS.

Vernier DCU with NI ELVIS

The Vernier DCU allows you to provide useful current (up to 600 mA) from the digital output lines or the counter output lines. Designed for our LabPro interface, but easy to use with ELVIS, the DCU is great for connecting stepper motors, servo motors, fans, DC motors, and many other small electrical devices.
