MPLI Program for Windows

The MPLI Program for Windows allows very fast data collection on real-time graphs, oscilloscopes, and meters. The sampling rate can be as high as 75,000 samples/second or slow enough so that data can be collected over several days. The data-analysis tools are outstanding. We have included an analysis tool, tangent lines, integration, FFT windows, histogram windows, calculated columns, and curve fitting.

FEATURES:

  • New Columns: You can create new columns that are calculated from data collected by MPLI. This allows the kind of analysis that many people do with spreadsheets. Now you can do the calculations within MPLI; for example, velocity and kinetic energy data can be calculated from distance and time data.
  • Curve Fitting: The MPLI Program for Windows supports automatic curve fitting to a wide variety of functions, including linear, polynomial, logarithmic, trig, etc. It also supports manual curve fitting, where the students type in values and try to match data to a mathematical model.
  • Support for a Motion Detector: The new MPLI Program for Windows supports a Motion Detector. MPLI Program for Windows requires at least a 386DX computer with Windows 3.1, a mouse, and 4MB of RAM (8MB is recommended if you are using a 386). Of course, it also requires the MPLI hardware.

MS-DOS MPLI Software

In MS-DOS, we use two programs to support the MPLI:

MPLI Program
The MS-DOS version of the MPLI Program is a flexible, menu-driven, analog data collection program. It supports all the sensors that can be used with the MPLI, except Motion Detectors. It displays, graphs, saves and prints the readings from all three input channels. It includes a mode which turns the computer into a digital, storage oscilloscope that even does X vs. Y plotting, so you can display Lissajous figures. The Oscilloscope mode lets you display three traces with a sampling rate of at least 75,000 samples/second. Real-time Fourier analysis is included.

Motion Plotter to Study Motion and Force
Our Motion Plotter program uses IBM MPLI hardware and an Ultrasonic Motion Detector to graph distance, velocity, and acceleration. You can plot all three graphs on the screen at once in real time and in color. Motion Plotter will also measure force at the same time it does motion graphs with our Student Force Sensor.
