Game Port Interfacing

Laboratory Timing

PRECISION TIMER:
Allows you to use your DOS-based computer as a precise and very versatile laboratory timer. The timing is started and stopped as objects move through photogates. There are 15 different timing modes, times are measured and displayed to 0.01 ms.

This one program should be able to do just about any timing you need to do in a science lab, including the following: falling objects (acceleration due to gravity), rolling objects, air track gliders, pendula or other oscillating objects, strobe lights and camera shutters, bouncing objects (coefficient of restitution), and manual "stopwatch" timing.

PHOTOGATES:
We sell both parts kits and assembled photogates. Our photogate parts kit includes everything you need to build a complete photogate system (connector box plus photogates). We also sell assembled photogates To connect one or two of the assembled photogates to the game port, you need an adapter (see below).

Chemistry with Computers
by Dan D. Holmquist and Donald L. Volz

This 240-page book contains 20 student experiments and 11 teacher demonstrations using Vernier Software products. Use Chemistry with Computers with our game port interfacing software and probes to have your students collect, analyze, and print data from their chemistry experiments. Each experiment includes student handouts, suggestions for the teacher, and sample results. Chemistry with Computers comes with a disk containing all the student experiments in MS-DOS text format. This means that you can load the student handouts into your word processor, then edit and print them for your particular classroom situation. Some of the experiments and demonstrations are:

  • Heat of Fusion for Ice
  • Acid-Base Titration Curve
  • Beer's Law
  • Acid Dissociation Constant
  • Freezing and Melting
  • Heat of Vaporization
  • Chemical Equilibrium
  • Heat of Combustion
  • Voltaic Cells
  • Find the Relationship
Physical Science with Computers
by Donald L. Volz and Sandy Sapatka

This new book provides 40 ready-to-use labs for physical science teachers using our IBM game port interfacing hardware. Each lab includes student handouts with step-by-step instructions, as well as a teacher's guide. We are continuing a tradition in Vernier Software books with this book-we provide the text of the student handouts on disk (in MS-DOS and Word for Windows format). You can edit the labs for your particular situation and then print them. Some of the experiments and demonstrations are:

  • Energy Content of Foods
  • An Insulated Cola Bottle
  • Solar Homes and Heat Sinks
  • First-Class Levers and Pulleys
  • Reflectivity of Light
  • Acid Rain
  • Lemon "Juice"
  • Lead Storage Batteries
  • Pendulum Explorations
