Software for the ULI
ULI Software Packages (for older Macintoshes and pre-Pentium computers) Our ULI software packages will handle most measurements you will make with the ULI. This award-winning data collection software will run on nearly all Macintosh computers or with 386 and 486 IBM-compatible PCs. Additional (optional) software is available for use with our Radiation Monitors, Current & Voltage Probe System, and Rotary Motion Sensor. These programs are needed only if you choose to use these sensors. (A site license is included with each program purchase.)
Data Logger This data-collection software is available for use with nearly all Macintosh computers or with 386 and 486 IBM-compatible PCs. You can quickly load an experiment file and calibration for any Vernier sensor for the Serial Box Interface or ULI. Simply click on the Start button, and you can collect data as a real-time graph. You can then display or print the graph, examine the data, or do analysis of the data. Prior to doing an experiment, you can easily set up data collection parameters, such as calibration, data rate, length of experiment, or time units. If you are using the pH Sensor, for example, simply open the pH experiment file; a pH calibration is loaded and you are ready to collect data! In addition, the Data Logger disk includes experiment files for all the labs in Chemistry with Computers, Physical Science with Computers, and Biology with Computers. Don't forget you can do much more than collect data with Data Logger. Data Analysis features include
Macintosh Data Logger Experiment files or DOS Logger Experiment Files ULI Timer ULI Timer is our photogate timing program for the Macintosh. Using this software, your students can perform various types of photogate timing experiments, including acceleration due to gravity, pendulum timing, bouncing objects, air track gliders, and Ultra Pulley experiments. These experiments, and many more, can be loaded from saved experiment files that come with ULI Timer, or you can set up your own experiments and save them. Compatible with ULI and ULI II for Macintosh only MacMotion/Motion For use with the ULI, Motion Detector and an optional force sensor. This program can be used to plot distance, velocity and acceleration graphs as the motion takes place. Great for teaching students about kinematics and motion graphs. This program contains all the data display, graphing, and analysis features included in the Data Logger program.
Sound For use with the ULI and Microphone. Displays the waveform of a sound and/or its fast Fourier transform. Compare the sound from different musical instruments, display beats, and have students learn wave terminology. Sound contains all the data display, graphing, and analysis features included in the Data Logger program.
Electricity For use with the ULI and Current & Voltage Probe System. Monitors current and/or voltage in DC and AC circuits. Has special features to support the automatic adjustment of the calibrations and graphs as current and voltage probes are connected and disconnected. Electricity contains all the data display, graphing, and analysis features included in the Data Logger program.
Event Counter For use with the ULI and our radiation monitors. Plots counts/interval vs. time graphs or histograms as you study radioactive materials. A great way to study background radiation, half lives, and the randomness of radiation. Event Counter contains all the data display, graphing, and analysis features included in the Data Logger program.
Rotary Motion For use with the ULI and Rotary Motion Probe. This program can be used to plot angular displacement, linear displacement, angular velocity and angular acceleration graphs as motion takes place. You may also monitor an analog input as you monitor position. With this feature, you may monitor light intensity as a function of position. This program contains all the data display, graphing, and analysis features included in the Data Logger software. Some Rotary Motion uses are:
MacTemp/Temperature For use with the ULI, temperature probes, and a heat pulser. MacTemp is an optional program for use with the Tools for Scientific Thinking Heat and Temperature curricular materials. It is not needed unless you are using these materials. Most temperature experiments may be performed using Data Logger. This contains all the data display, graphing, and analysis features included in the Data Logger program. In addition it provides
ULI Software Developer's Guide This manual is for those who want to write their own programs for the ULI. It explains how to send ASCII commands to access the routines built into the ULI. Much of the programming necessary for data acquisition is already done for you. You can then develop software to use a wide variety of sensors with any computer that has a serial port. You can also use information in this manual to control the ULI from within a telecommunications program. The ULI Software Developer's Guide also includes our ULI Starter Stack, which can be used as a starting point for other ULI HyperCard stacks.
