iPad on a Roll

Vernier’s Video Physics app for the iPad is a great way to not only show students how a physical phenomenon occurs, but help them graph it as well. All you do is use the iPad 2’s video camera to record the motion you want to analyze and the program marks the object’s position frame by frame and graphs its motion. It’s great for a rolling ball, a football field goal, a car’s acceleration and riding a roller coaster.

Kick Off the 2011/12 School Year with Vernier’s Free Hands-On STEM Workshops

Starting this September, educators can attend one of Vernier’s free Fall workshops to learn about the many ways that data-collection technology can be integrated into their STEM curricula. Providing educators with hands-on instruction using Vernier’s LabQuest, educators can enhance their teaching and technology skills during each 4-hour workshop.

Blind Entrepreneur Gets National Recognition

The National Federation of the Blind has recognized a Purdue University alumnus who founded a startup company at the Purdue Research Park. Cary Supalo created Independence Science LLC, which develops software that strengthens visually impaired students’ interest in science.

Cary worked closely with Beaverton, Ore.-based Vernier Software & Technology and professional software engineers to create and test the interface,” Mallouk said. “We are very grateful to Dave Vernier, CEO of Vernier, for his consistent commitment to this project.

National Instruments Announces NI LabVIEW for Education Software for High Schools

National Instruments today announced the latest edition of its NI LabVIEW for Education software for high school, which integrates with classroom data collection and control devices to help teach science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts to students. The software is a full-function version of the industrial LabVIEW graphical system design software that is “skinned” and scoped appropriately for students. It is optimized for classroom use through instructional videos, tutorials, open-ended challenges and teaching resources created specifically for high school students and teachers.

Beaverton Hosts Historic Exchange with 52 International Visitors

Young representatives from six countries will gain leadership skills in sustainable development during the City of Beaverton’s International Sustainability Leadership (ISL) Project from July 18 to Aug. 5. Participants will travel from Beaverton’s Sister Cities as far away as Birobidzhan, Russia; Cheonan, South Korea; Cluses, France; Hsinchu, Taiwan and Trossingen, Germany. Young Beaverton leaders are also represented.

ISL is presented by the Beaverton Sister Cities Program and Sustainable Beaverton with educational contributions from more than 30 local businesses. ISL is sponsored in partnership with the Beaverton School District, IBM, Northwest Natural, SolarWorld-USA, Reser’s Fine Foods, Marylhurst University, Vernier Software & Technology, Welch Allyn, Clear Edge Power, Comcast, Skanska, TriMet, Columbia Sportswear, Gerding Edlen, Micro Power Electronics, Beaverton Toyota and Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District.

Vernier’s LabQuest Now Viewable Via LanSchool’s Classroom Management Software

Vernier Software & Technology and LanSchool have partnered to make LabQuest handhelds and Logger Pro software accessible via LanSchool classroom management software. With this new functionality, educators can manage all devices, as well as project any and all connected LabQuest screens so that students can view and interpret data in real-time as experiments are conducted.
