How can I stop Windows from giving a warning about non-exclusive access to Go devices?

On a few Windows computers the user will get a warning message every time a Go device is connected, warning that exclusive access rights cannot be granted. This will probably not cause a problem, but the error message is annoying.

The problem is due to other, badly-behaved applications attempting to connect to the Go! device. Some Logitech software is known to cause the problem, but other software could do this as well.

The best solution is to figure out what other (non-Vernier) software is seizing the Go! device and remove it, but this may be difficult.

To just disable the message, open the file UserSettings.txt (for Logger Pro 3.5 and later) or strings.txt (Logger Pro 3.4.6 and earlier), located in the Support folder in the Logger Pro 3 folder, use a text editor (Word is not a text editor). Find the string

IDSX_DISPLAY_EXCLUSIVE_ACCESS_WARNING = "yes"

If you set this to "no" the warning message will never be displayed. However, if the other software is actually communicating with the Go! device, data collection results may be unpredictable--the warning message at least shows that there is the potential for a problem.
