On an existing graph, double-click the graph, and clear the Connect Points option. You may want to set the Point Protectors option.

Sometimes users don't ever want Logger Pro to use connecting lines between data points on graphs. This setting can be changed for all new graphs in a fairly simple way. The key to using this feature is to note that all new graphs use features from the most recently created graph. So, if an existing graph is set to use no connecting lines, the next graph will also have that setting.

If you are connecting a sensor and relying on the autoID behavior, or are just manually entering data, try using a startup file. For example, place the connectlinesoff.cmbl file in the Logger Pro 3 folder, and use the general Logger Pro preferences to enable use of a startup file. Browse to this file so that Logger Pro will open this file on file|new.

Now when you launch Logger Pro, or choose file|new, the file will be opened. Any attached sensors will then modify the setup, but the graph will have the properties of the graph in the startup file.

The attached Logger Pro 3.8 file has only a few changes from the default settings:

-connecting lines are off
-point protectors are on
-the legend is turned on
-the page background color is set to green so you can tell immediately that the file is in use

Note that Logger Pro has a useful, but possibly unexpected behavior for point protectors on time-based data. If point protectors (the shape such as a square or diamond symbol) were drawn on every point, they would run together and be unreadable. So, only some of the points have point protectors.

Manual entry columns still have point protectors on every point by default.

Note that Logger Pro correctly follows the setting found in a file when it is opened. As a result, the startup file method outlined above will not affect existing files. This is by design.

If you are opening an existing file and want to turn off connecting lines for future use, you must clear the connecting lines (double click the graph, use graph options, clear connecting lines, optionally set use point protectors) and save the file. Propagate this file to all other computers as needed.
