If the video plays in QuickTime player, but not in Logger Pro, you will need to re-compress the video or use a different workflow to create or process the video.

QuickTime can’t decode as many video compression formats when called from within an application (such as Logger Pro) in comparison to using it on its own. The video plays back as a black box because Logger Pro doesn’t have access to the necessary codec (video compression rules).

Workarounds include:
– Capture the video using a different camera that produces videos that can be opened in Logger Pro on Windows.
– Play the video on a Mac. Frequently the video will work normally on a Mac running Logger Pro.
– Re-compress the video into a compatible format.

If you want to re-compress the video, there are several programs that can do this. We most often use Handbrake, a free program available at:

As with many video compression programs, there are many choices for the video settings. The H264 format is a useful output format for Logger Pro.
