Vernier Tech Info Library TIL #799

Question

Are Vernier products and Firmware Systems (DataLab and Hewlett Packard) products compatible?

Answer

The DataLab supports most Vernier Sensors (as listed below). Note however that compatibility between the DataLab and Vernier Sensors is limited to the programs available. Vernier has not written nor do we sell such programs.

We have attempted to summarize the compatibility between our sensors and the DataLab System. The information below is gathered from the manufacturer’s web site and/or information from their technical support. Vernier Software & Technology has not tested the compatibility between our products and DataLab. A number of factors contribute to the successful compatibility between various interfaces and sensors: physical compatibility, software, calibrations, voltages, etc. Refer to the manufacturer for information on the use of our sensors with their hardware and software.

-Interface: DataLab
-Platform: PC and HP calculators (HP models 38,39,40,48,49)
-Sensors: BTA, DIN, and BTD for Motion Detector
-Contact Information: http://www.firmwaresystems.com
-Compatible Sensors: The DataLab is directly compatible with Vernier’s 0-5 volt linear analog probes with BTA connectors. When used with the DIN-BTA adapter, the DataLab is compatible with Vernier's 0-5 volt linear analog probes with DIN connectors. The DataLab is compatible with the Vernier Motion Detector with BTD connector.
-Incompatible Sensors: The DataLab does not currently support the BTD-style Photogate and Radiation Monitor sensors, or Vernier’s new Stainless Steel non-linear temperature probe. These sensors may be supported in the future.
-Software: A number of activities for the DataLab using Vernier sensors are available at the following website: http://www.firmwaresystems.com/Education.htm
