UChem Teach Mobile Lab, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Due to large physical size, diverse demographics, and a wide disparity of family incomes, science education faces significant challenges in New Mexico. Many efforts have been taken to address low student performance in science disciplines, including the creation of the UChem Teach Mobile Lab, a STEM education initiative established at the University of New Mexico, which promotes STEM education for K-12 communities.
Through the Vernier grant, the program will increase the exposure to chemistry for students in grades 8-12, particularly those students in rural areas, by bringing chemistry labs and equipment to their schools. The technology will also be used in UChemTeach Teacher Summer Workshops to provide science teachers training in laboratory instruction.
