The science department at Westminster High School is always seeking ways to encourage students to explore the outside world through science. Last year a teacher at the high school created a lab for sophomore biology students to explore and test various environmental elements around the campus including: soil moisture, pH, and temperature. The lab was intended to have students graph these elements; however, an inability for the students to take quantitative measurements presented a difficulty.
The Vernier grant will provide the school with the technology needed to accurately conduct these types of experiments in an engaging and hands-on manner. The technology will also be instrumental in providing schools with the tools and capability to conduct long-term scientific studies.
