These terms apply to purchases and rentals from the Vernier Science Education (“Vernier,” “VSE”, “we,” “us,” or “our”) online store located at the website URL that each customer has been provided (the “Site”). You must be 18 years old or older to place orders through the Site. Your use of the Site constitutes your acceptance of these Terms of Rental (the “terms”).
Product Rental
- The term of this agreement commences on the date that the rental product is shipped from Vernier and expires when the product is returned to the possession of Vernier.
- Vernier will only rent to customers within the U.S.
- The product may or may not be in new condition. If used, it may have normal wear and tear, including scratches, but it will be in usable condition, as reasonably determined by Vernier.
- We will ship all orders via UPS ground for a standard shipping fee, or expedited shipping at a higher fee, which are listed separately and included in the total billed amount. Orders are usually shipped from Oregon within 1-2 business days of receiving the order. Standard ground shipping is 1-5 business days.
- AT THE END OF THE RENTAL TERM: IF WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE PRODUCT BY THE DUE DATE, WE WILL AUTOMATICALLY EXTEND YOUR RENTAL TERM DUE DAY BY FOUR MONTHS (“EXTENDED DUE DATE”) AND CHARGE YOUR CREDIT CARD THE ADDITIONAL RENTAL FEE FOR THE PRODUCT LISTED ON OUR SITE AT THE TIME OF THE RENTAL.
- AT THE END OF THE EXTENDED DUE DATE TERM: IF WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE PRODUCT BY THE EXTENDED DUE DATE, WE WILL CHARGE YOUR CREDIT CARD THE FULL LIST PRICE FOR THE PRODUCT LISTED ON OUR SITE AT THE TIME OF THE RENTAL, BUT WE WILL DEDUCT THE RENTAL FEE AND EXTENDED RENTAL FEE RECEIVED FROM YOU FOR THE UNRETURNED RENTED PRODUCT. IF YOU RETURN A RENTAL PRODUCT TO US AFTER THE EXTENDED DUE DATE, WE WILL NOT REFUND YOU AND WE WILL NOT SEND THE PRODUCT BACK TO YOU.
- Upon completion of your rental term, you must return the product to us by the due date, which will be indicated in your order. To initiate the rental return process, please refer to the links and instructions included in email notifications that have been sent to your email address. You can also go to your original Vernier rental website, and follow the instructions for returning a product. This will detail the steps needed to return your rental product. Ship the physical product in the original packaging. Print the prepaid shipping label and affix the label to the outside of the package using clear tape. Write your Order Number on the outside of the box in a dark, easy-to-read marker. Take your package to a UPS shipping center.
- You are responsible for keeping track of and returning your rented product to us by the due date. We may, but are not obligated to, provide you with rental return due date notices. Print your packing labels ahead of time and allow for shipping time to get your rented product shipped and received by us before the due date.
- If, at the end of your rental term, you return to us a product that is damaged beyond normal wear and tear, to the extent that we cannot reuse the product in our reasonable discretion, you will be assessed a 50% damage fee of the full list price for the product listed on our Site at the time of the rental. (This fee is a genuine estimate of the anticipated or actual damages that might arise from your damage to the product and our inability to reuse the product.) The damage fee will be automatically charged to the credit card that you used to rent the product.
- You can return any item(s) rented for a refund of the rental price if we receive your refund request within 21 calendar days of your rental and we receive your returned product within 30 calendar days of rental in the same condition as we provided it to you. If you are eligible for a product refund under these conditions, we will credit the credit card that we charged for the rental, less shipping charges. To request a refund, email rentals@vernier.com to set up the return. Ship the physical product you are returning in the original packaging. Print the prepaid shipping label and affix the label to the outside of the package using clear tape. Write your Order Number on the outside of the box in a dark, easy to read marker. Take your package to a UPS shipping center. If you request a refund under the above conditions and return a rented product that is damaged beyond normal wear and tear, to the extent that we cannot reuse the product in our reasonable discretion, and we did not send it to you in this condition, you will be assessed a 50% damage fee of the full list price (i.e., not the rental price) for the product listed on our Site at the time of the rental. (This fee is a genuine estimate of the anticipated or actual damages that might arise from your damage to the product and our inability to reuse the product) The damage fee will be deducted from your credit card refund.
- If you wish to purchase the product at the end of your rental term, but before your due date or extended due date, instead of returning the product, contact Vernier at rentals@vernier.com. We will charge your credit card the full list price for the product on our site at the time of your Buyout request plus applicable taxes, but we will deduct the rental fee and extended rental fee (if applicable) paid for the product.
- If you did not receive your order, please contact Vernier at rentals@vernier.com and request a refund within 21 calendar days of the date of rental. Requests made after this time will not be eligible for a replacement or refund.
- In the event that the product is not in working order at any time during the rental period, you should immediately contact Vernier and speak to one of our Technical Support Representatives at 1-888-837-6437. If the product cannot be repaired by you after consultation with our Technical Support Representative, we will create a Return Material Authorization (RMA) and you will return the malfunctioning product to Vernier for inspection and repair. Vernier may, at its option, replace or repair the malfunctioning product or cancel the entire rental agreement. Repairs considered normal wear and tear will be considered to be under warranty and you will not be charged a repair fee. If the damage to the product is considered excessive and not normal wear and tear by Vernier, we have the option to charge a repair fee.
Payment of Rental Fees
- The rental fee is based on the rental period stated in your order. Shipping charges and applicable taxes are listed separately and included in the total billed amount.
- If you rent a Product, you hereby agree to pay us all applicable charges pursuant to each respective order. Your agreement to pay us for your order is not contingent upon your use of the product. You will be charged whether you use the product or not.
- For each order, we will charge the credit card you provide to us at the time of purchase, without any additional notice.
- You must provide accurate and complete billing information at the time of your order; e.g., name, address, telephone number, email address and valid form of payment.
- If your information changes at any point in time during the rental period you shall promptly notify us and update the appropriate information.
- If we do not receive payment from your credit card issuer for any orders, you shall pay any amount due to us, upon request, in any form we request.
- The credit card that you use to place and pay for your order will be posted at the time of making your order.
- The expiration date on your credit card must be at least 60 days after the ending date on the rental period stated on your order.
- You are responsible for any and all applicable taxes for your order.
- If you think we have made an error in the fees that you were charged, you must contact us at rentals@vernier.com within 30 calendar days that the error appeared on your billing statement and include a full description thereof. Your right to object to any other billing errors shall be waived.
Applicable Law
- The laws of the State of Oregon shall apply to any disputes related to this Terms of Rental, without regard to any conflict of law provisions. The parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts located in Oregon.
Product Purchase

- For each order, we will charge the credit card you provide to us at the time of purchase, without any additional notice. Applicable taxes will be added.
- You can return any unused purchased item(s) for a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping fees) if we receive your request within 21 calendar days of your purchase and we receive your returned product within 30 calendar days of purchase in the same condition as we provided it to you. If you are eligible for a product refund based on the foregoing, we will credit the credit card that we charged for the purchase. To request a refund, contact Vernier at rentals@vernier.com to set up the return. Include your original Order number when requesting a return. A Return Material Authorization (RMA) will be sent to you, along with instructions as to how to return the shipment. Ship the physical product you are returning in the original packaging and affix a shipping label to the outside of the package using clear tape. Write your RMA Number on the outside of the box in a dark, easy to read marker. Take your package to a UPS shipping center.
