Introduction

Your task in this project sounds pretty simple: build a bridge out of wood and glue. Your bridge will be evaluated on its efficiency, that is, how much weight it can hold compared to its own weight. Before you jump in and start gluing sticks together, review the design requirements for the bridge!

Objectives

  • Students will analyze data to identify design features or characteristics of the truss components that will optimize the strength of a bridge.
  • Students will engage in the engineering design process, with an emphasis on redesign to improve prototypes.

Sensors and Equipment

This experiment features the following sensors and equipment. Additional equipment may be required.
