Beaverton, OR – June 21, 2004 – Vernier Software &Technology, Bodelin Technologies, and Apple Computer have partnered to bring the excitement of scientific investigation to school age-children. Science CSI (Concentrated Science Investigation), a new science kit for grades 5-12, contains the latest digital tools from Vernier and Bodelin, as well as a science curriculum written by Apple Distinguished Educators. The kit will be released at the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC), June 21-23rd.
Vernier has provided pH, conductivity, and temperature probes for the kit, while Bodelin includes their Proscope hand-held USB microscope and accessories. The Apple curriculum, designed specifically for the kit, uses an investigative theme and integrates the use of Apple’s interactive media software in each lesson; for example, presenting scientific results using Apple iPhoto or iMovie. The kit comes in a hard-shell, portable case.
The 25th annual NECC conference will be held at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. Apple Distinguished Educator Dr. Bruce Ahlborn will present hands-on workshops for Science CSI in the Apple booth (601). One session will be held on each day of the conference.
“Popular dramas such as ‘CSI’ and ‘CSI Miami’ have sparked widespread interest in scientific investigation. This new kit teaches scientific principles of investigation using data-collection technology,” said David Vernier, co-founder of Vernier and former physics teacher.
