The new CBR 2 collects data on position, velocity, and acceleration while connected directly to a TI graphing calculator. No additional interface is needed! Perfect for math hands-on activities to explore linear, parabolic, and sinusoidal functions!
The Science CSI Kit comes with activities, probeware, interfaces, and software for investigating a ski accident, acid rain, and more! Included in the kit is a ProScope digital USB microscope that magnifies objects up to 200 times and displays the image on your Mac or PC screen.
Beaverton, OR – January 26, 2005 – Vernier Software & Technology today announced a new level of simplicity in collecting data with the TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators. The Vernier EasyTemp is a sensor that plugs directly into the calculators’ built-in USB port and eliminates the need for an additional interface when collecting temperature data. The Vernier EasyData application comes pre-loaded on TI’s newest graphing calculators: the TI-84 Plus and the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition. The technology is simple to use: once the EasyTemp sensor is plugged in, the EasyData program automatically launches, and you are ready to collect data.
“Texas Instruments and Vernier are long-time partners, and our newest collaboration has greatly simplified data collection with TI graphing calculators,” said David Vernier, co-founder of Vernier and former physics teacher. “In the past, math and science educators bought their calculators and had to download an application. Now they just plug in the EasyTemp probe, and they are ready to collect data. It’s the perfect solution for collecting temperature data with a calculator.”
Designed for students from middle school through the early college years, EasyTemp and the TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators are portable enough to be used for collecting temperature data in the field as well as in the classroom. The stainless steel EasyTemp probe is durable for classroom use and covers a temperature range of -20 to 110 degrees Celsius.
Students can operate the Vernier EasyData application quickly and easily by using the five graph keys located directly below the calculator’s graph screen. Vernier EasyData options are displayed in pop-up dialog boxes or simple wizards. Once the data have been collected, the student can use the functionality of the calculator to analyze the data or download the data to a computer using a TI GRAPH-LINK™ cable and Vernier’s Logger Pro 3 software. Vernier EasyData is also compatible for use with the TI-83 Plus family of graphing calculators and CBL 2™ and the Vernier LabPro® data-collection systems.
“Vernier EasyData and Vernier EasyTemp make data gathering much more intuitive. The use of the graphing buttons as controls of the menu reduces the number of different types of key strokes and again focuses the user on the data gathering aspect of the experience,” said John Heil, science teacher at International School in Kirkland, Washington. “This application combines the ease of computer software with the portability and price advantage of a graphing calculator.”
Two activities are included with the purchase of the EasyTemp probe, and 10 additional activities can be downloaded from wwww.vernier.com/ez-tmp. The web page also includes eight activities for middle school and high school science, as well as two activities for high school math.
“I found both Vernier EasyTemp and Vernier EasyData very simple to use,” said Richelle Blair, professor of mathematics at Lakeland Community College in Kirkland, Ohio. “I’m a person who tries technology before reading the instructions, and I was able to figure out how to work with the sensor and application with little instruction.”
Pricing and Availability
The Vernier EasyTemp probe will be available in late February from Vernier Software & Technology for a price of $38. The Vernier EasyData application is currently available and may be downloaded for free onto any TI-84 Plus or TI-83 Plus family of graphing calculators at wwww.vernier.com/easydata.
