Android for Data Collection and Analysis

Students collect temperature data with a LabQuest 2 and an Android tablet

Collecting data on Android? We offer several options for data acquisition—LabQuest Stream and Go Direct® technology.

LabQuest Stream allows students to collect data using one or more sensors with an Android device. This wireless sensor hub is compatible with over 50 Vernier sensors.

Go Direct sensors communicate directly with your Android device. They provide a low cost way to measure temperature, pH, and more. Go Wireless Link provides a low-cost solution to adapt over 45 Vernier sensors to be used with your Android device.

Regardless of your choice, using our free, award-winning apps, students can draw predictions, deeply analyze data, and draw conclusions based on evidence.

How It Works

  1. Students in a lab group set up an experiment with Vernier sensors and an interface with wireless capabilities, such as LabQuest Stream.
  2. Using the Graphical Analysis GW app for Android, students set experiment parameters and start data collection.
  3. Real-time sensor data is shown in a graph, a meter, or a table to accommodate different learning styles.
  4. Data can be analyzed on the mobile device in class or at home.

What You Need

  1. 1

    Graphical Analysis GW app

Graphical Analysis GW allows students to wirelessly collect, analyze, and share sensor data on an Android device. The unique touch interface is designed for Android and provides a fluid, intuitive, and personal experience as individual students create and share data analysis. Graphical Analysis GW app

  2. LabQuest Stream

    LabQuest Stream

With LabQuest Stream, our wireless sensor interface, students have the freedom and flexibility to simultaneously collect data from multiple Vernier sensors using an Android tablet or phone. Just like the name suggests, students can stream data directly to a mobile device using Bluetooth® connectivity. LabQuest Stream

  3. Vernier Sensors

Vernier sensors are rugged, classroom-proven technology that are well supported and easy to use. Choose from over 50 sensors for your experiments.

    Compatible Sensors with LabQuest Stream

    Compatibility Notes

    1. Requires a Motion Detector Cable to connect to a DIG port on the interface
    2. Data can be collected using the sensor’s default calibration only.
    3. This software cannot apply digital filters to EKG data.
    4. Requires an additional signal source, such as LabQuest 2 running the Power Amplifier app or a computer running the Power Amplifier Function Generator Software, to control the Power Amplifier output
    5. New Thermocouples (Model: TCA1816R3) are not supported with this software. No Software updates are planned.
    6. Software cannot calculate resistance or power data.
    7. This interface/software combination can only collect force data; displacement measurements are not supported.

Wireless Technology

Looking for an affordable way to use Vernier sensors with your mobile device? Consider Go Direct sensors and Graphical Analysis 4 if you prefer all-in-one sensors, without the need for an interface.

Go Wireless sensors

Compatible with Graphical Analysis 4, students can directly connect sensors, either through USB or via a compatible wireless connection.

Wireless Data Sharing

LabQuest 2

Working in a collaborative model? Try the Data Sharing features of LabQuest 2. Classrooms collecting data on Android devices can use LabQuest 2, which wirelessly streams data using a Wi-Fi connection. Students work together in a lab group, collect data on one LabQuest 2 interface (using one or more sensors), and then share data with other students in their lab group for individual analysis. Data Sharing is a one-to-many solution that’s both elegant and powerful. Learn more about Wireless Data Sharing »
