Some of the Vernier data-collection applications for the TI-83 Plus/TI-84 Plus calculators make use of the calculator’s system variables such as lists, matrices, and real numbers. If one or more of these variables has been moved to the calculator’s ARCHIVE memory, it cannot be accessed by the application and an ERR:ARCHIVED will be generated. The following applications are affected:

  • DataMate
  • VST Apps
  • ChemBio
  • Physics
  • PhySci
  • EasyData

There are two ways to overcome this problem:

Option 1 The quick but destructive approach.
CAUTION: This method will ERASE ALL DATA, PROGRAMS, AND APPLICATIONS on the calculator.

  1. Press [2nd],[MEM] then choose ‘Reset…’.
  2. Use the right arrow key to highlight ‘ALL’ then press Enter to select ‘All Memory…’.
  3. Choose ‘Reset’ to confirm.
  4. Once the memory is reset, reload any application that you want from another calculator, the LabPro/CBL 2, or from a computer using a TI Connectivity cable.

Option 2 The slow but gentle approach.

  1. Press [2nd],[MEM] then choose ‘Mem Mgmt/Del…’. Select ‘All…’ to show a list of all calculator variables, programs, and applications.
  2. Move the cursor with the up and down arrow keys and toggle items in and out of the ARCHIVE memory using the [ENTER] key.
    • Items in the ARCHIVE memory are shown with an asterisk (*) to their left.
    • Items in RAM are shown with no asterisk.
  3. Go through the entire list and make sure that the appropriate items are in RAM, not ARCHIVE.

Here is a list of the items that often lead to problems. Make sure each of these is in RAM (has no asterisk.)

  • Lists: L1,L2,L3,L4,L5,L6,L7,L8,L9,L10,L11,LC,LM,LS
  • Matrices: [A],[B]
  • Real Numbers: A-Z and theta
  • Strings: Str0 to Str6
  • Programs: RegEqu (if using the DataMate application)
  • Applications: Don’t worry about applications, they will always remain in the ARCHIVE memory and thus be marked with an asterisk.
