If you are unable to connect a Go Direct Spectrophotometer to a device via Bluetooth wireless technology, please check the following:

  1. Are you using the latest version of the Spectral Analysis app?
Go Direct® SpectroVis® Plus Spectrophotometer (GDX-SVISPL) will only connect via Bluetooth wireless technology using Spectral Analysis app, version 4.4 or newer.
All other Go Direct spectrometers will only connect via Bluetooth wireless technology using Spectral Analysis app, version 4.11 or newer.
    Visit https://www.vernier.com/spectral-analysis for availability information.
  2. Does your device (computer, Chromebook, Androidâ„¢, or iOS device) meet the hardware and operating system requirements? Visit https://www.vernier.com/spectral-analysis for these requirements.
Note: If you are connecting to an iPad, the latest iOS is recommended. Specifically, iOS 16 or greater for the most reliable bluetooth connection.
  3. Power your device (computer, Chromebook, Androidâ„¢, or iOS device) completely off and back on. Numerous issues are solved by clearing the device cache.
  4. Some Go Direct SpectroVis Plus Spectrophotometers will require an update to connect via Bluetooth wireless technology. To determine whether your spectrometer requires and is eligible for this update, see
Does my Go Direct SpectroVis Plus Spectrophotometer firmware need to be updated?
  5. Make sure you are set up properly for Bluetooth connection for your spectrometer:
    • Go Direct SpectroVis Plus Spectrophotometer
      • Make sure the battery is fully charged by charging it overnight with the AC power supply. When fully charged, the battery indicator light should be green.
      • Unplug from AC power and press the power button. The green power LED should come on followed shortly by a blinking blue Bluetooth indicator LED. Note: If the green LED does not come on, remove the battery and keep it out for a full one minute before putting it back in.
      • Open Spectral Analysis and tap on Connect Spectrophotometer. Connect to your spectrometer from the list of discovered devices.
      • Note: Bluetooth will work when plugged into AC power but it will NOT work when plugged into USB. Make sure the USB cable is unplugged if trying to connect via Bluetooth.
    • All other Go Direct spectrometers
      • To power the Bluetooth radio, connect the spectrometer to the USB Power Adapter or to a powered USB hub. The Bluetooth LED will blink. Note: Do not plug the USB into a computer USB port to run with Bluetooth.
      • Open Spectral Analysis and tap on Connect Spectrophotometer. Connect to your spectrometer from the list of discovered devices.
