{"id":22604,"date":"2025-01-06T12:45:08","date_gmt":"2025-01-06T20:45:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vernier.com\/til\/?p=22604"},"modified":"2025-01-06T13:47:56","modified_gmt":"2025-01-06T21:47:56","slug":"how-do-i-make-a-template-file-for-my-students-in-graphical-analysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vernier.com\/til\/22604","title":{"rendered":"How do I make a template file for my students in Graphical Analysis?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This can be a helpful tool if you want to streamline your instructions for data collection and\/or have a unique set of data collection parameters.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Making the Template File<\/h3>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Launch Graphical Analysis and connect the sensor(s) your students will be using. <br \/><em><strong>Note:<\/strong> Go Direct sensors and LabQuest sensors<\/em><sup data-fn=\"3791c7a8-9736-425b-a3ba-81cc71e423f4\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#3791c7a8-9736-425b-a3ba-81cc71e423f4\" id=\"3791c7a8-9736-425b-a3ba-81cc71e423f4-link\">1<\/a><\/sup><em> will require separate template files.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Adjust the data collection parameters as desired.<\/li>\n<li>Click or tap <strong>View Options<\/strong>, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"23\" height=\"23\" class=\"wp-image-19376\" style=\"width: 23px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vernier.com\/til\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/ga027-View-menu-icon.png\" alt=\"\">, and select what elements you want visible.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Do not<\/strong> <\/em>collect any data. (To test your file, follow the Using the Template File instructions.)<\/li>\n<li>Click or tap the <strong>File Menu<\/strong>, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"75\" height=\"24\" class=\"wp-image-22610\" style=\"width: 75px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vernier.com\/til\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/File-menu-icon.png\" alt=\"\">, and save the file with a unique name.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Make this file available to your students\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emailing it is a safe option as the file you created will remain intact on your computer.<\/li>\n<li>If you share it via Google Drive (or some shared file sharing service), students need to be instructed not to overwrite the saved file when collecting their data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using the Template File<\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When your students are ready to access the file, have them follow these steps for the best results:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Launch Graphical Analysis and connect the sensor(s) that match up with the file.<sup>1<\/sup> <br \/><em>It is important to connect the sensor before opening the template file.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Click or tap the <strong>File Menu<\/strong>, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"75\" height=\"24\" class=\"wp-image-22610\" style=\"width: 75px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vernier.com\/til\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/File-menu-icon.png\" alt=\"\">, and select <strong>Open\u2026<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to where the template file is located and open the file.<\/li>\n<li>In order to avoid overwriting the template file, click or tap the <strong>File Menu<\/strong>, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"75\" height=\"24\" class=\"wp-image-22610\" style=\"width: 75px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vernier.com\/til\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/01\/File-menu-icon.png\" alt=\"\">, select <strong>Save As\u2026<\/strong>, and save your file using a unique name.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The student should see the data collection parameters and view that you set up initially.<\/p>\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Related Links<\/strong><br \/><a href=\"\/til\/3475\/\">Graphical Analysis Troubleshooting and FAQs<\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-footnotes has-background has-very-light-gray-background-color has-small-font-size\">\n<li id=\"3791c7a8-9736-425b-a3ba-81cc71e423f4\">When using LabQuest sensors, use the lowest available sensor channel when connecting the sensors to the interface.
