{"id":2396,"date":"2012-05-03T16:58:44","date_gmt":"2012-05-03T23:58:44","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2023-05-15T13:33:56","modified_gmt":"2023-05-15T20:33:56","slug":"2396","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vernier.com\/til\/2396","title":{"rendered":"What sensors can I use with the Centripetal Force Apparatus?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are three products that can me used to measure force on on the <a href=\"\/product\/centripetal-force-apparatus\/\">Centripetal Force Apparatus<\/a> (<nobr>CFA<\/nobr>): &nbsp; <a href=\"\/product\/dual-range-force-sensor\/\">Dual-Range Force Sensor<\/a> (<nobr>DFS-BTA<\/nobr>),&nbsp; <a href=\"\/product\/wireless-dynamics-sensor-system\/\">Wireless Dynamics Sensor System<\/a> (<nobr>WDSS<\/nobr>), or <a href=\"\/product\/go-direct-force-and-acceleration-sensor\/\">Go Direct<sup>&reg;<\/sup> Force and Acceleration Sensor<\/a> (<nobr>GDX-FOR<\/nobr>).<\/p>\n<p>The WDSS is more expensive, but yields slightly better data because there is no possibility of friction in bearings. The WDSS mounts directly on the spinning beam, bypassing the pulleys. The WDSS requires that you use a computer or LabQuest with Bluetooth.<\/p>\n<p>The Dual Range Force Sensor is less expensive, but yields almost as high quality data as the WDSS. The DFS mounts to the Dual-Range Force Sensor bracket that is installed on the right side of the CFA frame. Attach the Dual-Range Force Sensor to the Sliding Carriage via the Swivel Assembly (as mounted on the pulleys and Pulley Guide).<\/p>\n<p>The GDX-Force Sensor is a newer alternative to the DFS-BTA that mounts the same way.<\/p>\n<p>Use <a href=\"\/product\/photogate\/\">Photogate<\/a> (<nobr>VPG-BTD<\/nobr>) or <a href=\"\/product\/go-direct-photogate\/\">Go Direct<sup>&reg;<\/sup> Photogate<\/a> (<nobr>GDX-VPG<\/nobr>) to measure angular speed. Either mounts to the Photogate Bracket preinstalled on the bottom of the CFA frame near the Encoder Wheel.<\/p>\n<p>If you are using a GDX-VPG for this, here is how to set things up:<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: 'TimesNewRomanPS',serif;\">Sensor Channel: <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: 'TimesNewRomanPSMT',serif;\">Gate 1 \u2013 Gate State or Gate 2 \u2013 Gate State <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: 'TimesNewRomanPS',serif;\">Mode: <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: 'TimesNewRomanPSMT',serif;\">Photogate Timing \u2013 Angular Motion or Motion Timing<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are three products that can me used to measure force on on the : &nbsp; ,&nbsp; , or .
