{"id":3451,"date":"2015-05-07T15:57:49","date_gmt":"2015-05-07T22:57:49","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2020-08-08T10:43:34","modified_gmt":"2020-08-08T17:43:34","slug":"3451","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vernier.com\/til\/3451","title":{"rendered":"Why are the force readings on my Structures and Materials Tester (VSMT) noisy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The force sensor (aka load cell) reading is affected by minor variations in motion affecting the connection between the sensor and the structure, as well as minor voltage fluctuations.<br \/>\nOur experiment files take advantage of oversampling to minimize this effect. Oversampling takes additional data points between reported values and averages those data.<br \/>\nFollow these steps to turn on Oversampling:<br \/>\nLogger <i>Pro<\/i>: Click on the Experiment tab and select Data Collection. Select the Oversampling check box.<br \/>\nLabQuest App: From the Meter screen, tap Sensors and then tap Data Collection. Set the sampling rate to 10 samples per second.
