{"id":3819,"date":"2016-11-04T19:45:57","date_gmt":"2016-11-05T02:45:57","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2021-09-10T11:05:49","modified_gmt":"2021-09-10T18:05:49","slug":"3819","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vernier.com\/til\/3819","title":{"rendered":"What is the difference between the microphone built into the LabQuest and the MCA-BTA microphone?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Both sensors both use a MEMs-based microphone and are very similar in their response to sound.<\/p>\n<p>The major benefit of the <a href=\"\/product\/microphone\/\">Microphone<\/a> (<nobr>MCA-BTA<\/nobr>), is the flexibility of the &#8220;wand&#8221; style form factor for positioning the sensor in an experiment.<\/p>\n<p>The MCA-BTA also tends to perform better at longer distances from the source of sound. The internal microphone can only measure sounds very close to the face of the LabQuest.<\/p>\n<p>The internal sensor tends to register larger difference (maximum to minimum) in sound pressure for a given tone.
