{"id":4090,"date":"2019-09-20T17:04:54","date_gmt":"2019-09-21T00:04:54","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2023-02-03T12:15:52","modified_gmt":"2023-02-03T20:15:52","slug":"4090","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vernier.com\/til\/4090","title":{"rendered":"What compound microscope do you recommend for your digital imagers?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Any standard compound microscope should work well with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vernier.com\/product\/celestron-digital-microscope-imagers\/\">Celestron Digital Microscope Imagers (CS-DMI, and CS-5MP)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We tend to recommend compound microscopes from traditional vendors such as Zeiss, Nikon, and Olympus as these microscopes should all have the industry standard ocular diameter of 23 mm.<\/p>\n<p>Please verify that the ocular diameter is 23 mm (the industry standard) before purchasing your new microscope from any vendor.<\/p>\n<p>Ocular diameters that are greater than 23 mm should not be a problem as long as the diameter does not exceed 30 mm and the adapter ring that comes with the imager is used.<\/p>\n<p>Unless you are teaching a microbiology course, students are not going to be using a 100x oil immersion lens. See if a supplier has a model without the 100x oil immersion lens, to make it even more affordable.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flinnsci.com\/\">Flinn Scientific<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wardsci.com\/store\/\">Wards Science<\/a> and many other vendors carry compound microscopes designed for education. Celestron also carries an affordable entry level compound microscopes.
