Waves and Sound

Use Vernier technology to develop a deeper understanding of waves and sound. Explore the nature of wave behavior, analyze sound frequencies, and investigate concepts like resonance and harmonics with our easy‑to‑use, hands‑on tools.

Determine the Speed of Sound

The Resonance Apparatus is used for the classic experiment of determining the speed of sound using the principle of resonance in a tube that is closed at one end. Fill the apparatus with water and use a tuning fork or the included speaker to produce sound.

Collect Sound Data Wirelessly
with the Snap of Your Fingers

With sound-triggered data collection, Go Direct® Sound provides students with an easy way to capture and evaluate waveforms. Measure wave amplitude and sound intensity level at the same time to investigate the decibel scale, or take the sensor outside the classroom to discover sounds in their natural environment.

Hands-On Teaching Strategies to Help Students Understand the Physics Behind Electricity and Sound

Help students understand the physics behind electricity and sound with these five key takeaways from our Capacitors, Sound Waves, and Beats: Lessons to Energize Your Classroom webinar, along with strategies and tools you can use to deepen student comprehension.

Software for Physics

Deepen Students’ Understanding of Natural Phenomena

Unlock key features with Vernier Graphical Analysis® Pro and do more with your Vernier sensors to expand and extend learning. With access to Pro, you can enrich live instruction while providing more opportunities for students to interact with and analyze data outside of class time.

Study Motion Everywhere

The Vernier Video Analysis® app brings video analysis to your students in an easy-to-use, streamlined application. Students can design their own scientific investigations, record videos, and then analyze the motion. This app gives your students the opportunity to observe and study hard-to-replicate phenomena regardless of device—it even works with Chromebooks!
