In rare cases, an error during the update of the LabPro operating system can cause a Windows computer to crash. Most often this is caused by a communication failure during the update. It can also be caused by a loss of power to the LabPro during the update or a LabPro hardware issue.

To get started with troubleshooting, remove power to LabPro and then reconnect power or replace the batteries. The sounds played by LabPro will determine what you need to do next:

Case 1: LabPro plays the “happy beeps”

If LabPro plays the “happy beep” sequence, the OS update was successful, and the LabPro can be used with Logger Pro.

If you are using LabPro with calculators and are unable to get DataMate to transfer from LabPro, you will need to repeat the update using a Graph Link cable (used to ship with TI graphing calculators and now available in the TI Connectivity Kit USB (GLC-USB)). For more information on the update process using a Graph Link cable, see How do I update a LabPro or CBL2 interface using a TI Connectivity Cable?

Case 2: LabPro is silent

LabPro does not give the “happy beeps” when you connect to the AC adapter or insert batteries.

1. Check that the AC adapter is firmly inserted and plugged into an outlet that you know works (if using batteries, verify the batteries are good and continue with Step 2). If you have more than one LabPro, verify that the AC adapter works with a different LabPro. The brand name on the AC power adapter should be “Vernier”. If it is not, there is a chance that this power supply is for a different device and that it does not work with LabPro.

2. Unplug the AC adapter or remove the batteries, and wait 30 seconds. Insert the adapter or the batteries and allow the LabPro to sit for 5-10 minutes. If the interface has started up with “happy beeps” in that time, you should hear a little click when you press any one of the three buttons.

3. Power the interface with the AC adapter or batteries, wait 10 seconds, and then press and hold the START/STOP button on the LabPro. If the LabPro flashes and plays the “happy beeps,” contact Vernier for further assistance.

If the LabPro is still not playing the “happy beeps,” it is worth forcing another update to see if the LabPro gets out of this state. You will need to update using a Graph Link cable (used to ship with TI graphing calculators and now available in the TI Connectivity Kit USB (GLC-USB)). See How do I update a LabPro or CBL2 interface using a TI Connectivity Cable? for more details about updating using a Graph Link cable. If this does not work, contact Vernier at support@vernier.com to set up a return.

Case 3: LabPro plays two sets of two beeps

If LabPro plays two sets of two beeps, the firmware needs to be restored. Restore the LabPro firmware using a Graph Link cable TI Connectivity Kit USB (GLC-USB). For more information, see How do I update a LabPro or CBL2 interface using a TI Connectivity Cable?

Download the MP3, or WAV file.

Case 4: LabPro gives constant beeps and flashes

If LabPro plays high-low, high-low beeps, and lights are flashing continually (for more than about 10 seconds), the LabPro has corrupt firmware and is not repairable.

Case 5: LabPro makes four “angry beeps”

If LabPro plays four “angry beeps,” the LabPro firmware needs to be updated. See: How do I update a LabPro or CBL2 interface using a TI Connectivity Cable?
