The problem: A limited number of Go Direct® Temperature Probes were shipped containing a firmware version that results in spurious readings when the probe is in an environment below 0ºC. These probes were shipped in August and September 2022, and all have serial numbers starting with 0F3. All other serial numbers are unaffected. Units from this serial family shipped after Sept 26, 2022 do not exhibit the problem. More details on determining whether a probe is affected can be found below.

The solution: We have developed a Windows-based firmware update that resolves the problem. You may choose to apply the update yourself using these updater instructions or Vernier can update them for you. If you prefer to send affected probes to Vernier for updating, complete this firmware update request form to start the process.

Details: To determine if a unit is affected, inspect the firmware version in Graphical Analysis. If the serial begins with 0F3, and the firmware version is 5.1.0, an update is needed. Other serial families may have version 5.1.0, but these are not affected by the error.

On connecting a sensor you see the Sensors dialog. Confirm that the sensor is in the 0F3 series.

Sensors dialog showing a GDX-TMP of the 0F3 series, as well as the location of the i button.

Then click the i button to get to the details dialog.

Device Information dialog showing firmware 5.1.0.

If the primary firmware is version 5.1.0, the unit requires an update.
