The Vernier Energy Counter contains a built in 25 Ω load resistor. Depending on both the solar panel you are using and your light source, 25 Ω might be very similar to or very different from the ideal load for maximum energy output.

Note that the Vernier Energy Counter is not meant to handle voltages in excess of ±12 V. If you have a 12 V solar panel, be sure to disconnect the solar panel from the Energy Counter when the 30 second measurement is complete. Leaving a 12 V solar panel connected to the Vernier Energy Counter in the presence of direct sunlight will overheat the Energy Counter and you will have to wait for it to cool off to be able to use it.
