Thermal image showing temperature difference between black and white paper.

Perform our “Absorption of Radiant Energy” experiment using the FLIR ONE thermal camera and the Thermal Analysis app. Use a desk lamp and an incandescent light bulb to illuminate a piece of white paper and a piece of black paper at close range (10–15 cm). Measure the maximum temperature of the pieces of paper using the FLIR ONE camera and the Thermal Analysis app on your mobile device.

Variations on this experiment include using different types of light bulbs, such as compact fluorescent and LED bulbs. You can also experiment with different power levels of incandescent bulbs, such as 40 W, 60 W, 75 W, and 100 W.
