Projectile Challenge

Experiment #5 from Physics Explorations and Projects

Education Level
High School

The goal of this activity is for students to apply physics principles in order to effect a collision between a projectile and a target. This type of activity is sometimes called a Practicum and is generally scored on success (hitting the target) or failure (a miss). Before starting, decide if student groups will have more than one chance to test their calculated results.

The general procedure is for students to receive the challenge, make necessary measurements and calculations without actually completing a trial, and then to test their calculated results with the instructor’s supervision. Some teachers also record video of the testing.

Apply physics principles to correctly predict a projectile’s landing point.
