Enzyme Action: Testing Catalase Activity

To conduct this experiment, students use the Go Direct® Gas Pressure Sensor or Gas Pressure Sensor. The objectives of the experiment include

  • Measure the production of oxygen gas as hydrogen peroxide is destroyed by the enzyme catalase or peroxidase at various enzyme concentrations.
  • Measure and compare the initial rates of reaction for this enzyme when different concentrations of enzyme react with H2O2.
  • Measure the production of oxygen gas as hydrogen peroxide is destroyed by the enzyme catalase or peroxidase at various temperatures.
  • Measure and compare the initial rates of reaction for the enzyme at each temperature.
  • Measure the production of oxygen gas as hydrogen peroxide is destroyed by the enzyme catalase or peroxidase at various pH values.
  • Measure and compare the initial rates of reaction for the enzyme at each pH value.

Investigating Food Dyes in Sports Beverages

In this experiment, students investigate the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum to understand the relationship between the concentration of a solution and the amount of light transmitted. To conduct this experiment, students use the Go Direct SpectroVis® Plus Spectrophotometer or Go Direct Visible Spectrophotometer. The objective of the experiment is to determine the concentration of an FD&C food dye in a sports beverage.

Physics

Projectile Challenge

To perform this challenge, students use the Go Direct Projectile Launcher, Vernier Projectile Launcher, Go Direct Photogate, or Photogate. The objective of the challenge is to apply physics principles to correctly predict a projectile’s landing point.
